FiDiPro Fellow invites talented researchers to Finland

The Finland Distinguished Professor Programme, jointly administered by Tekes and the Academy of Finland, is offering new opportunities for young researchers.

From now on, Finnish universities and research institutes may use the programme to invite promising young researchers to work in Finland. Tekes will pilot the new FiDiPro Fellow funding in the February 2009 call for proposals.

The Finland Distinguished Professor Programme (FiDiPro) funds the recruitment of internationally renowned researchers into Finnish universities and research institutes. Until now, only professor-level experts have been funded.

The new FiDiPro Fellow programme seeks to bring talented researchers to Finland, particularly those in the initial stages of their career.

"We wish to build the success of the future. Young researchers are eager to move and are better prepared to settle in Finland for a longer time," says Senior Technology Adviser Erja Ämmälahti from Tekes.

"The cooperation begun within the FiDiPro programme may continue for years after the project has ended."

The FiDiPro Fellow programme is designed for talented researchers past their postdoctoral stage. The applicant is a Finnish university or research institute with a suggestion for a project that would employ the foreign researcher.

FiDiPro funding promotes long-term cooperation

FiDiPro funding is granted for a fixed period between two to five years. Tekes has adapted conditions for FiDiPro funding in a more flexible direction. From now on, a minimum of four months per year must be spent working in Finland, and the total period must amount to 12 months spent working in Finland during the project.

Tekes and the Academy of Finland select the FiDiPro projects according to their own application methods and criteria. Tekes will apply FiDiPro Fellow funding in its first public research application process in 2009, with the deadline on 27 February 2009.
